a.k.a. “Rip Van Winkle”

Geezus Frog! Is it 2011 already? I seem to have overslept a bit… 🙂

For those of you wondering where the heck I’ve been for the last month or so, or those who were worrying whether I had gotten too big for my britches and abandoned this blog in favor of fame and fortune in the world of commerce: I thank y’all for caring so much, for the many private e-mails, for your patience and forgiveness, and assure you that my feet are still squarely planted on the ground (or at least metaphorically as they are actually at a right angle to the ground and hiding beneath several layers of quilts and blankets).

As the subtitle of this blog declares, the theme here is “The Art of Survival”, and that is what I’ve been doing: Just trying to survive. If you’ve ever been pregnant or observed it from afar, there is an odd phenomenon where a few days before the babe makes his grand entrance, Mom2Be gets a splurge of energy and accomplishes incredible feats of creative and physical effort. It could be anything from chopping enough firewood to keep the kid warm through kindergarten, wallpapering the entire house as well as the neighbor’s, or stripping and finishing an ancient grand piano. Well, my body, for some weird reason, adopts that routine whenever I’m just about to suffer a relapse, and that’s just what happened this time after enjoying a flurry of creative activity from Sept.-Nov. I’m still having a hard time of it and really have no way to predict how often I’ll be able to post but I’m hoping to get back here at least once a week for as long as I can.

In any case, while I’ve been “away”, if I hadn’t known before, I was reminded once again of the riches I’ve been blessed with in friends. Janie, Mi’chele, Art & Enid, Steve & Sue, Barry & Sharon, and Michelle B. too, are each the jewels I shall always cherish. In goodtimes or bad, in silence or song, these are friends who linger long, whether close or far away. What I’ve done to deserve you I have no idea but pray I can live up to your example.

“But friendship is the breathing rose, with sweets in every fold.” Oliver Wendell Holmes

”There is nothing worth the wear of winning, but laughter and the love of friends.” Hillaire Belloc

”Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art… It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.“ C. S. Lewis

”If you think that the world means nothing, think again. You might mean the world to someone else.“ Unknown (fun link but I doubt this quote was his)

“One loyal friend is worth ten thousand relatives.” Euripides (408 B.C.)

Supreme Farce

Posted by: • Date:

LEGAL DISCLAIMER: Please note that this post, as all others, represents purely my personal intellectual opinions and emotional feelings, and are not to be construed as anything more. As they say on “COPS” “All parties are innocent until proven guilty.” Since this case is still active, the final judgment of the justices has yet to be determined, but their ruling will be based on the official case records, which by law are available to the public (only certain of those documents are available online. For all others (transcripts, pleadings, etc.) you can only view them in person at the Florida 17th Circuiit Court in Broward County, Florida.

A brief poetic post to update you all

on the state of my legal fate under Florida law.

• • •

As last you heard my appeal it was won,

My adversary, livid, sought to have it undone.

Not wanting the Judges to be burdened with facts,

she tried striking my answer in a childish attack.

The Court had no patience to play such games.

Their mandate well-reasoned, the law very clear,

Three appellate judges denied her “Motion to Rehear”

• • •

In a fit of hysteria over the defeat of her plea,

unable to acknowledge loss gracefully,

my adversary scowled and dug in her heels.

Grabbing a torch for the earth

she’s threatened to scorch,

and is now charging onward

to the State Supreme Court.

• • •

Think about this. Yes! You heard me right.

My adversary’s taken to the Supreme Court her fight.

• • •

It does not matter that she abused my trust

nor does she care what is fair or just.

She flaunts the very law she’s sworn to uphold,

and perverts her fiduciary duty to benefit herself.

What matters to her most at the end of the day?

Simply to avoid all consequences, deflect all blame,

and shift to her victims her burden and shame.

• • •

She’s blind to the truth and deaf to my cries,

blissfully ignorant no one’s buying her lies

She’s contemptuous of all who don’t see her way,

charges them as biased, stupid or mean,

yet expects her bare argument and tears to sway.

• • •

With arrogance she proceeds to go higher and higher,

pushing her luck and refusing to quit.

But perseverance alone cannot bring her honor,

for she’s littered the pathway with hatred and bile.

When the goal that one seeks

relies on corpses and ruins,

there will be no adulation nor respect conferred.

• • •

How sad and lonely it must be

to live your life perpetually

behind a facade only you can see

with nothing of substance inside.

Spinning Wheel Gotta Go Round

Posted by: • Date:

So where the hell have I been these past 3 weeks? Ahh, if you only knew… 😉 To be honest, I have spent most of that time sleeping. My body and mind just had to escape from the physical pain and emotional strain that I’ve had to endure for so many years, and then try to regain the strength to go the next round. As to my health, while I certainly don’t mind not having to be pricked or to have my blood drained a couple times a week any more, it’s more than a little bit disconcerting to be told that the only reason for this change is because my doctors see no point in it anymore inasmuch as there’s nothing left they can try to treat me with. So while the good (even amazing!) news is that while the past chemo treatments failed to “cure” me, they were able to give my liver, pancreas and heart enough of a reprieve to slow down the rate that they were detiorating at, the bad news is that they are still detiorating and keeping me stuck in a hospital bed 90% of the time. Hereditary Hemochromatosis is such an insidious disease – atleast if you didn’t know you had it until it was too late to prevent major organ damage and other diseases or conditions from setting in. Sucky. I know this rant is in conflict with the promise I made to get back to my cheery self but I AM working on it and am getting closer to a genuine smile than I was last week. So progress is being made!

What goes up, must come down. Spinning Wheel…

Not all the news in my life is bad (as the above makes it sound). I’ve actually had some very good news on a couple of fronts. One, I just received the first edition of a 15-Month Calendar I designed, and however immodest it may be, I must say I’m really impressed with the quality of Zazzle’s printing and materials. They somehow made my artwork look a 1000% better than I could possibly imagine or even realized I was capable of. While I did all of the artwork and layout, without the right paper, ink, or expert application of the printing presses, the artwork would have been totally lost. So, for any of you who are contemplating turning your own artwork into useful products or beautiful prints, I highly recommend Zazzle. And if you’re just one who has a strong aesthetic sensibility and enjoy beautiful things, I hope you’ll consider checking out my Zazzle shop.

Okay, the other good news is that the Florida Appeals Court finally issued their opinion on my adversary’s attempt to overturn their prior opinion (that had been in my favor) and then my adversary’s attempt to have that Court strike my response to the Motion for rehearing. Not surprisingly, the 4DCA denied both Motions, which secures the awards already granted in my favor and allows me to seek restitution and damages. I’m praying my opponent finally “gets it” that he/she has run out of places to hide and it’s time to stand tall and accept full responsibility for the consequences of his/her decisions. We all f*ck up at times. We’re all human, after all. It is only in refusing to admit wrongs, in refusing to accept liability for them, in refusing to sincerely apologize for them, and then engaging in further wrongs with the purpose of deflecting the blame and consequences onto the very person harmed (unfairly) by the original bad decision, that makes one a pariah to society.

Enough of the monologue – and on to the Goodies! Tonight I’ve got a set of original images that have an obvious practical use right on your desktop. A set of folders that I’ve named “Slick”. Enjoy!
